The Pelican

American White Pelican by John James Audubon
(One of my favorite birds, such great personalities!)

The Pelican

Stately fellow struts
To my side demanding food.
Alas, I have none.
Webbed feet retreat to fishers
Open mouth he glub-glubs fish
Without saying thanks.

  1. I love the painting by this artist. I remember talking about him in my first grade class. Also the poem was wonderful.

  4. I love their wavetop flying formations. Skilled artizens of wind and sea. Arial dive bombing tactics. And lets not forget majestc sitting postures.
Although, I do have a picture of one with the head of another sutck completely in his gullet as they were fighting over fish heads at a dock.

  5. Cheeky devils, aren't they? No problem figuring out their place in the food chain, is there? Great job in a concise form. Cudos!

Perfectly rendered! The "glub-glub" really makes this poem a delight to read - especially accompanied by such a grand picture of the fella! I just don't know how these top-heavy dudes manage to lift off and fly. heh heh
