That Package

That Package from Easy Street Prompts

That package
arrived wrapped with brown paper
soiled with abstractions
in screaming shapes and forms,
an abomination of masking tape
criss-crossed in confusion.
The whole thing
left me breathless
because I knew you wrapped it
cursing my name.

  1. Well, that was an interesting poem. Love the ending.
I used to get stuff in brown wrappers...

brilliant twist in the end; unexpected, subtle, yet great. I wish I got any stuff at all, even if not in brown wrappers! ;)

  6. Shirley, you're the first person to wonder what is in the package--Ozy assumed it was dirty mags.

  7. Jo, I just assumed you decided to leave out the fact it was on fire when someone rang your doorbell. That's the only kind of gifts I get. Nice work!
